Mikael Krogerus & Roman Tschäppeler - Fifty Models for Strategic Thinking

Look at that cover. Black, minimal, two orange arrows: one pointing left, one pointing right. No middle ground. No grey area. It is the iconography of decision stripped to the bone — which is exactly the message of the book.

Krogerus and Tschäppeler — a Finnish journalist and a Swiss designer, a pair with a Nordic-Helvetic DNA that explains everything — did something seemingly trivial and actually revolutionary: they took the fifty best decision-making models taught in MBAs around the world and laid them out in a pocket-sized book. Eisenhower Matrix, SWOT, BCG Box, Black Swan Model, Rubber Band Model, Swiss Cheese Model. Concepts that are often obscure and verbose, turned into visual diagrams you absorb in two minutes.

But the stroke of genius is in the structure: only 40% of the models are about "deciding with others". 60% is devoted to understanding yourself better. Because — this is the implicit and uncomfortable thesis — you don't have a decision problem. You have an awareness problem. Before choosing between left and right, perhaps you should know who you are, the one doing the choosing.

I recommend it to those who decide for a living: managers, board members, entrepreneurs, executive advisors. But also to anyone tired of 400-page bricks of strategic theory who wants an operational tool to keep in a briefcase, on the desk, in a pocket. It is the Swiss Army knife of strategy: small, essential, always ready.

It won't teach you to be smarter. It will teach you to stop improvising. Which, in most meeting rooms, would already be a small revolution.
